PROJECT SUBJECT The overall goal of Chain-Link is to provide a low-cost, easy to use environment that will allow SMEs in the manufacturing/production sector to take advantage of enterprise resource planning systems and enable them to more effectively manage their internal and external supply chains. IST ACTION LINE This proposal is planned to be submitted to the June 2001 call for proposals of the IST 2001 Programme - Action line V.1.12 CPA12 "Application services provision". The submission deadline would be in the middle of October 2001. PROJECT ABSTRACT Chain-Link aims to provide a low-cost supply-chain management (SC) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution delivered to SMEs as an Application Service via the Web. In addition, Chain-Link will allow any existing business applications used by the SME to be fully integrated with the SC-ERP solution. This integrated solution could be provided as a complete Web-based Application Service, or as a client/server application where the existing business application(s) run in-house and the SC-ERP application resides on the Web-based server. PARTNER SEARCH The project instigator - LS2i - is a supplier of ERP solutions. LS2i is now looking for partners to undertake the following roles: 1) develop the open and flexible reusable middleware - a research institute or university department specialising in software development in a manufacturing environment. 2) undertake the development work necessary to integrate the LS2i ERP solution with commonly used business applications via the reusable middleware - a systems integrator; specialist software house or research institute/ university department. 3) undertake the development of the Web version of the new SC-ERP integrated solution - a systems integrator; specialist software house or research institute/ university department. 4) validate the above work through user trials - 3 or 4 SMEs from a manufacturing/production environment, covering both small and medium sized enterprises. 5) develop a set of metrics to measure the results of the trials against current practice - a research institute or university department. 6) enable the wide dissemination of the project results - 2/3 SME associations such as chambers of commerce.
